The Action Peoples Party (APP) has extended an invitation to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, encouraging him to consider running for re-election under its banner in the 2027 governorship race.
Despite this invitation, the APP emphasized that Fubara is neither a member nor the owner of the party.
The APP Chairman in Rivers State, Sunny Wokekoro, made this appeal during a solidarity visit from the party’s former leadership, led by Kenneth Atata, at the APP secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Wokekoro expressed confidence that the APP would make a significant impact in the upcoming local government elections on October 5, signaling the party’s intent to reshape the political landscape in Rivers State.
Reflecting on his political journey, Wokekoro, who previously belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticized the PDP’s current state.
He remarked that the party is no longer a viable option for politicians who are genuinely committed to the state’s and the country’s progress, arguing that the PDP has lost its relevance.
“I was a founding member of the PDP. I started by being a G-34 coordinator in Port Harcourt. I was a foundation member of that party. (With) the recent events in the country regarding the party’s administration, that party (PDP) is not supposed to house or to still retain any person who has morals. Any person who has integrity should have left that party by now.”
He clarified misconceptions about Governor Fubara’s association with the APP, noting, “There is one impression I must have to correct in this gathering; the impression that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a member of this party or that he owns this party. This party has been in existence way back since 2017. It predates any of us who have just joined the party.”
Wokekoro also encouraged other influential politicians, including members of the State and National Houses of Assembly, to join the APP, urging party members to remain committed to advancing the party’s goals in Rivers State and nationwide.
The National Chairman of the APP, Uchenna Nnadi, praised Wokekoro for his leadership in raising the party’s profile in Rivers State, stating, “I want to commend the new leadership of the Action Peoples Party in Rivers State led by able and amiable chairman, Sunny Wokekoro. Within a short while, you have made us proud, and within a short while, our party is being recognised nationally.”
