The Anambra chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has declared an indefinite strike across all private and public hospitals in the state, following the abduction of Dr. Stephen Ezeh.
The association is embarking on the action after an ultimatum given to the state government and security agencies to rescue Dr Ezeh expired. 
In a statement issued by Dr. Princeston Okam, Chairman, and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, Secretary of the NMA Anambra chapter, the association has directed all doctors in the state to immediately withdraw clinical services from Federal, State, Private, Mission, Institutional, and Corporate hospitals until Dr. Ezeh is released.
The statement read: “NMA Anambra hereby directs all doctors in the state to forthwith withdraw clinical services in all Federal, State, and Private, Mission, Institutional, and Corporate hospitals in the State until our member is released.
“The NMA Anambra will carefully monitor compliance through a ‘Strike Monitoring Team,’ and any defaulting hospitals or members will be blacklisted and penalised in accordance with congress resolutions.”
The NMA also urged the Anambra State government to activate all necessary security measures to ensure the prompt and unconditional release of Dr. Ezeh.
They acknowledged the potential difficulties the strike will cause but stressed the need for urgent action to restore normalcy in the health sector.
The NMA praised Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Health Commissioner Dr. Afam Obidike for their ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and security in the state.
The association also commended doctors for their dedication and commitment to providing quality healthcare to the people of Anambra.
